Alcatraz and Chinatown, San Francisco

On Friday June 1st we went with the Binghams to tour Alcatraz Island.  Can you believe in the 4+ years we have lived here we have never done it?  The Binghams went early to go to Baker Beach since they missed it earlier so we met up with them on the Embarcadero.  As we were waiting in line for the Ferry boat we saw the Binghams, with stunned looks on their faces.  When they caught up to us they told us that they just ran into a group of nudists on the street!  We were glad we weren't with them!

Alcatraz turned out to be better than I even thought it would be.  We all did an audio tour - they give you a pair of headphones and you walk throughout the prison learning about several stories of famous prisoners, some famous prison breaks, what it was like living there, etc.  I thought it would be interesting for the adults but not as much for the kids, but it ended up being great for everyone!  Even Derek stayed focused on the stories being told through the headphones.

After Alcatraz we went and had dinner at Hunan Homes in Chinatown.  Finding a place to park was an adventure.  But well worth it.  The restaurant is one that our friends the Wiscombes recommended to us a while back.  We'd been there once and loved it, and the second time was even better.  They took us upstairs to a nice private feeling room.  Huge round tables with a lazy susan in the middle to share all of the great food.  It was a fun way to relax and enjoy the last day of the Bingham's visit with us.  Just wish it could have lasted a bit longer!
